On Thursday the port of Barcelona announced they had suffered a cyber attack affecting many of its servers and systems.
The organisation said they immediately launched the contingency plans which are designed for handling these incidents.
The incident was disclosed on Twitter by the organisation and said that their information system department is investigating the incident to know the extent of the cyber attack and take appropriate measurements to prevent further attacks.
“Early this morning the #PortofBarcelona suffered a cyber attack affecting a number of its servers. Our Information Systems department is gauging the extent of the attack and implementing its contingency plans for this type of situation.” said in the Twitter post published by the company.
The extent of damage caused by the cyber attack is still known as the organisation did not disclose more details about the incident.
In a Twitter post later that day the organisation said that their seaside operations were not affected by the cyber attack and land operation such as reception and delivery of goods were also working as usual.
It is to be noted that just two days before the attack happened the organisation published a post on twitter saying that “No one is safe from a #cyberattack that puts at risk their activity and safety and that of their stakeholders. Nor even the ports. In #PierNext we review the challenges of implementing a #cybersecurity system in a port.”
The organization said they have informed law and enforcement authorities about the incident and have initiated appropriate legal actions against cyber attack.
