Nordstrom an American based retailer has announced a data breach exposing personal information of their employees.
The breach exposed personal details of workers such as names Social Security numbers, dates of birth, checking account and routing numbers, salaries and more.
On Wednesday, Employees received a breach email notification and an apology from co-President Blake Nordstrom.
According to the company, their security team discovered an issue on October 9 caused by a contract worker who improperly handled the employee information.
The company said the worker has no longer access any of company data and systems. They also additional security measures to prevent this from happening again.
The company did not reveal the exact number of employees affected by the breach and no details of the contract worker was also revealed.
According to reports some worker who left the company also received notification regarding the breach.
The company said that they have notified the law and enforcement authorities about the issue,
“We have no evidence data was shared or used inappropriately,” “Out of an abundance of caution, we are notifying our employees so they can take the appropriate steps to monitor for any potential unauthorized activity.” said in the statement by the company.
